New music guide The Neu Bulletin (29th January 2015)

DIY’s daily new music tips, featuring Dornik and Swedish band Dolce.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’ tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Dornik supports Jessie Ware - London, Brixton Academy

For the past couple of years, Dornik’s been part of Jessie Ware’s band, providing percussion and backing vocals to her celebration of soul. Tonight - with the attention towards Ware’s ‘Tough Love’ reaching fever pitch - Dornik steps out with his own solo project, playing one of his first shows to date.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Dolce - Inez Palema

Swedish duo Dolce sound like their skimming stones on ‘Inez Palema’, a song recalling Beach House’s distant, lulling charms. Anna Levander leads, with vocals that steer round convention with a light, hopping rhythm. It’s a gorgeous introduction to a unique new prospect.

Dolce play London’s The Old Blue Last on 3rd February.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Ghost Babes Compilation Vol. 1

There’s a big argument to suggest that UK bands need all the exposure they can get on these shores to have a hope of breaking the States, but Ghost Babes is a label that’s flipping the formula. Based in London, its first compilation solely brings together U.S. prospects, joining forces to create a collection of tracks that soar past petty territory. Highlights come in The So So Glos’ barmy ‘Diss Down’ and BOYTOY’s gorgeous fuzz-encrusted glow for ‘Blazed’. Plenty to dig into, here.
