Theo Verney support Crocodiles - Brighton, Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar
T.V E.P by Theo Verney
Local Brighton lad Theo Verney’s stock is rising by the day, all built up on some quickfire EP releases and choice support slots (including one with Parquet Courts in London recently). Tonight he’s joining the prolific Crocodiles, flicking the scuzz switch in Sticky Mike’s.
THE SONG
no body - Dark Shadow / Dog Pets Me
Dark Shadow / Dog Pets Me by no body
A handful of US indie staples writhe around in the foreground of no body’s debut single, ‘Dark Shadow / Dog Pets Me’. Hints of My Morning Jacket clash heads with Modest Mouse, bringing in a whole-hearted approach to cramming as many fully-formed ideas into one song. It’s a slant that’s similarly captured by a band like Women, who don’t stop free-thinking when they’ve hit the chorus. ‘Dark Shadow’ especially, is the kind of track you could discover new clues within, 20 listens to the good.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
SKYN FLYNT - Wild Child
ACOUSTIC DEMO by SKYN FLYNT
Bratty acoustic demos recorded in a Toronto garage (surely) don’t offer the most exact clue of where SKYN FLYNT’s priorities lie. Give the trio an amp and a half-decent microphone and they’d likely strike gold. Still, it’s remarkable something so scratchy and playful to the bone can offer so much promise. You can’t hide a good song - not even in the scruffiest of bedrooms.
