THE GIG
AIH All-Dayer Best Friends, Joanna Gruesome, Black Tambourines, Birdskulls, Nai Harvest (Saturday 31st)

A comfy scene that’s delivering on years of promise is beginning to fledge some seriously exciting releases, most notably from Joanna Gruesome who’ve landed a debut album on Slumberland Records. Alongside them, Best Friends, Black Tambourines are upping their game, while Birdskulls and Nai Harvest stand out amongst a new batch of fuzz-headed talent. It all comes together in one room - the Dalston Victoria - for an all-day event. Kicks off at 1pm.

THE SONG
Inland Island - Island Soul
Inland/Island EP by Inland Island

With its head on the sand and some old-school soul seeping through a pair of headphones, Inland Island is the sound of one lazylimbed creature finding sweet escape at a constant. Guitar licks and odd nods to UMO line the seams, with ‘Island Soul’ being a sleepyheaded mission statement for the Charleston musician, on a highlight from a self-titled debut EP.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Kissing is a Crime - Blind Bruises

Matthew Molnar of Pagan Rituals (and formerly of Brooklyn band Friends) continues a slant towards a grungier, more doom-laden path by heading up new project Kissing is a Crime. Linking up with Royal Baths and fellow former-Friends alumni Lodro, there’s something deadly lurking in the New York sewers, seeping up into the basement venues and beyond. ‘Blind Bruises’ is a 90s Sub Pop era grit with all the rough edges left in for good measure.
