THE GIG
Hello 2013 pt. 4: Jaws, Crash & The ‘Coots, Superfood and Deathbeams - The Old Blue Last, London

In our final new band showcase of the month four of the most dynamic guitar acts converse in The Old Blue Last, London. Jaws are joined by fellow B-town band Superfood, who play one of their first shows. The ever-inventive Crash & The ‘Coots (pictured, above) join the bill, having just unveiled their recent ‘Don’t Kill Bugs’ track, as premiered on DIY. Deathbeams complete proceedings.

THE SONG
Aleesha Dibbs - U&UR
[stream via. Soundcloud]

Everything we’ve come to associate with Australia’s musical rise gets swept to one side, our generalisations shattered. ‘U&UR’ - Aleesha Dibbs’ latest track - is the direct opposite of immediate, sunny pop. Creepy and heart-swelling in equal measure, it’s intentionally ominous, sounding at times as if it’d emerged from the local Sydney graveyard. But tying it at all together is an astonishing craft, something Bat For Lashes would do anything to put her name to.
Aleesha’s got some history: She played the role of a Virgin in Karen O’s Psychic Opera at Sydney’s Opera House and she’s worked with Angus & Julia Stone.

‘U&UR’ is taken from debut album ‘AFLOAT’.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Once Kingdom - A Loan

Swedish producer Niklas Dahlstrand has been reading from the Nicolas Jaar rulebook of minimal, sweeping electronica. The songs making up his debut ‘Herbs’ EP are rooted in subtle touches and little production tweaks that excite the senses. ‘A Loan’ closes the collection; a finitely-constructed piece that wedges smart acoustic guitar patterns in alongside a sophisticated bed of synthetics. The whole EP is downloadable for FREE, so take note.
