New music guide The Neu Bulletin (30th January 2015)
DIY’s daily batch of new music tips, featuring Bad Breeding, The Golden Dregs and Claws.
The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.
Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.
THE WEEKEND GIG:
Bad Breeding, Claw Marks, The Bodies
London - The Lock Tavern
Stevenage punks Bad Breeding are fast becoming one of the UK’s brightest new hopes - especially live, where a bitter, frustrated force finds the perfect setting. This Saturday they headline a night at Camden venue The Lock Tavern - it’s free, with support coming from Claw Marks and The Bodies.
Also this weekend, Meat Wave and Theo Verney play a free gig at London’s The Old Blue Last (Friday 30th January).
THE BIG NEU THING:
Claws - I’ll Never Learn
Norwich four-piece CLAWS like to give the impression that they’re stuck in a rut on ‘I’ll Never Learn’, a frustration-laced track devoted to inner trauma. The reality? They’re steaming ahead with intelligent, fuzz-encrusted rock ’n roll, all dials turned up to full. Expect these guys to be soundtracking heady, sweaty nights in UK venues for months to come.
‘I’ll Never Learn’ is taken from the ‘No Sleep’ EP.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
The Golden Dregs - Compadré
Benjamin Woods’ The Golden Dregs project likes to keep things sharp, treating songs like a bunch of Michelin Star chef-approved knives, blades capable of delivering a killer blow. ‘Compadré’ is a fine example, jaggedly jiving its way into the conscience via Black Lips-style raggedness.
