THE GIG
Temples, Loom, Sheen - The Shacklewell Arms, London
As we all but universally agree that in 2013, at least something’s gotta give for guitars and their dashing owners, London tonight plays host to three drastically different instigators of this supposed sea change. Temples’ psych-fused rock will play to a crowd who’ve spent the past few months basking in Tame Impala’s ‘Lonerism’, while Loom’s ferocious, intimidating form of performance has to be seen to be believed. Sheen meanwhile are of the more timid variety, and they’ll open proceedings.
THE SONG
Nowa Huta - Defeat
defeat by Nowa Huta
Across the past week, these Bulletins have showcased a fairly diverse array of song of the day’s. Bipolar Sunshine’s chartworthy pop of ‘Fire’ could appeal to Plan B fans, while the debut Xander the Great track will send shivers down the spine of every Weeknd fan. We defy tradition again here with the latest track from London producer Nowa Huta. Deep, dense and resplendent in gorgeous vocal samples, this is the music you need to be playing all weekend if your only wish is to rest and recoup.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Flashing Red Lights
Prestige EP by Flashing Red Lights
Mack Slevin is one fine, prolific specimen. His Bandcamp is littered with release after release, the latest of which, the ‘Prestige’ EP, was brought to our attention via. a Portals feature. Slevin’s take on rock’n’roll is of stark, melodic tracks, starved of reverb and gimmicky effects, just focused on the finer things, like poignant lyrics and well-written songs. This new EP is full of ‘em.
