New music guide The Neu Bulletin (3rd December 2014)

DIY’s new music delivery, featuring Kero Kero Bonito, Deebs and Springtime Carnivore.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Kero Kero Bonito, Bo En, Lil Data - London, Electrowerkz

Free entry (but advance tickets are gone), tonight sees London trio Kero Kero Bonito topping what’s been a ridiculously-exciting first year with their biggest headline show. Backing up the ‘Intro Bonito’ mixtape and the similarly bonkers recent single ‘Build It Up’, Sarah Bonito and co. will be linking their hybrid of pop with fellow internet-addicts Bo En and Lil Data - it’s a fantastic triple-bill.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Springtime Carnivore - Name On a Matchbook

Anyone remotely obsessed with the nostalgia-tinged dancehall pop of Summer Camp and Slow Club will find themselves in a similar fever for Springtime Carnivore. Greta Morgan’s debut album came out this month on Autume Tone (The Orwells, Twin Peaks), with simple, affecting, summer-tinged synth pop her flavour of the year. Don’t forget those whistles too - every charming pop debut requires a whistle.

OTHER NEU BUSINESS:
Deebs - Rising Angel

The latest contribution to Ryan Hemsworth’s Secret Songs club is an unrelentingly giddy take on death. Like bringing a sparkler-covered cake to a funeral, for a song about loss, Deebs’ ‘Rising Angel’ is remarkably positive. But then, this is a song about the producer’s late dog. And everyone knows dogs go to heaven, and that dog heaven is a wonderful, joyous place full of sticks, tennis balls and cuddles.
