New music guide The Neu Bulletin (3rd February 2015)

DIY’s daily new music dose, featuring Honne and Laura Groves.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to.Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Honne

London, Electrowerkz

They’ve recovered from that whole cereal cafe ruckus, and now bearded wizards Honne (one bearded, one nicely clean-shaven, fyi) are readying their biggest headline show yet. On the back of head-turning, soul-spliced Soundcloud smash-hits, this is a sold out, ridiculously hyped headline night. That’s for a reason though - these two have something special going for them.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Laura Groves - Committed Language

Laura Groves has been under the spotlight for years, refining her approach both on record and on stage. Finally things look to be clicking into place. Her new EP, ‘Committed Language’ (out 16th Feb) is her best work to date, adding a perfectionist streak to Groves’ sombre, softly-softly approach. The title-track is a finely-placed example, reflecting on hectic, heady city life in the confines of gorgeous, gently-lifting piano-led songwriting.

Laura Groves plays St John on Bethnal Green, 10th March.
