New music guide The Neu Bulletin (5th November 2014)

DIY’s daily new music dose, featuring Shura and Fine Print.

The Neu Bulletin is a daily update of the most exciting new things DIY’s listening to. Some of the music you’ll like, some of it you won’t. Think of it as a stream of recommendations that every so often pops up something spectacular. Most of these are Bandcamp finds, big ups from readers or cheeky submissions that pop out of the inbox.

Every day we offer up a choice show, a song of the day (branched under the understated heading “Big Neu Thing”) and a little something extra that’s caught our attention. Check back here every day for your latest Neu Bulletin delivery and follow our ‘Listen’-tag for everything new music related.

THE GIG:
Shura - London, Studio Space

Shura’s London debut follows a not particularly low-key first run of shows across Europe, including Pitchfork Paris. By the looks of things, she’s attaching a fairly minimal set-up to the direct, affecting songs that’ve crept into the conscience throughout 2014. She’s recently inked a deal with Polydor - expect this to be a bright sign of what to expect next year.

THE BIG NEU THING:
Fine Print - About You

Funk’s been given a new glow in ‘About You’, the debut track from London outfit Fine Print. Burrowed down in bittersweet claims (“The skies haven’t been blue, lately”) and murky synth notes is a lifetime’s supply of muted, shuffling guitar lines, all amounting to the sax solo that’d sit pretty in a Destroyer record. Two dramatically different worlds collide, here - expect this to be a project defined by risks.
