The third single from Chrissi - sister of Mercury-nominated Berwyn - makes for yet more proof that easy musical magnetism clearly runs in the family. Imbued with a crackling, analogue warmth, ‘Lady Kisses’ is a deceptively inviting offering, the Essex-born singer’s vocals tactile and honeyed even when narrating the tiresome exploits of a no-good love interest. Recently signed to tastemakers Lucky Number, rising Yorkshire five-piece Priestgate are stating their intent with new track ‘Bedtime Story’. Part dream-pop, part gothic-tinged indie, the sparkling song could effortlessly ease into the soundtrack of a US coming-of-age flick, and their compelling sound and lyricism has already seen them likened to The Cure and The Maccabees. A cinematic dazzler from the hotly-tipped group, ‘Bedtime Story’ proves Priestgate are ones you shouldn’t sleep on. (Elly Watson)

Even while still being at such an early spot in her career, French-Korean-American artist spill tab has already proved to be a shapeshifting force. And it’s on her newest track ‘Grade A’ - which features upcoming tour mate JAWNY - that she manages to continue in that same vein. A bubbling alt-pop track, it’s a delight from the off, with JAWNY’s buoyant rapped verse pairing perfectly with spill tab’s more dreamy vocals. (Sarah Jamieson)

On their first couple of singles, Manchester quintet Mewn’s mix of gentle psychedelic intimacy and something altogether more widescreen earmarked them as a band treading an intriguing path. ‘Dull Paradise’ - taken from debut EP ‘Landscapes Unchanged’ - takes another strong step down it. Singer Daniel Bluer’s treated, underwater vocals nod to Unknown Mortal Orchestra, while swirls of heady piano land somewhere between Foxygen at their least insane or even a hint of Arcade Fire in the track’s gradual climactic ascent. Dull? No. Paradise? Mewn are heading in the right direction. (Lisa Wright)

‘Anti-Socialite’ is the first taste of yet another creative collaboration incited by lockdown limits, VETS being the teaming up of singer-songwriter Lilla Vargen and songwriter-producer Nick Hahn. As wistful as its inception would suggest, it’s a slice of fuzzy alt-pop that’s as indebted to ‘00s retro melodic shoegaze-loving Danes The Raveonettes as it is Jack Antonoff’s immediate, have-I-heard-this-before big pop moments.
