News Tour Diary: Savoir Adore (Part Two)

In the second instalment of their tour diary for DIY, Savoir Adore visit Amsterdam, Paris and London. It’s alright for some, eh? We asked them to keep a diary for us, the first part of which you can read here, as well as taking a few snaps.

Day Nine

On Saturday, we made our long trek to Amsterdam, sadly without Alex. After a train ride to London, then Gatwick and a flight we landed on the beautiful canal-lined neighborhoods of Amsterdam. We were also quickly introduced to the phenomenon of ‘babes on bikes’ - aka, everyone is beautiful in Amsterdam and they all ride bikes. We then found our way to the Vivaldi budget hotel and packed ourselves into our six single bed arranged room (picture below). Gary and I got some beers and then we called it a night. (Side note - the bars in Amsterdam are some of the most beautiful in the world).

Day Ten

On Sunday, May 13th we had a whole day off in Amsterdam. Most of us had never been to Amsterdam so I think it was one of our favourite days of the trip. We walked around, admired the ‘babes on bikes’, drank lots of delicious beers and tried not to get into too much trouble. That’s basically all we did, and after the busy week we had, it was wonderful.

Day Eleven

On Monday, we had our one and only show in Amsterdam, and probably one of the shows we were most excited about because it was at Paradiso - a venue we’ve only heard amazing things about. And it was true, WOW. (picture below). Not only of the most beautiful venues we’ve ever seen, but the sound was amazing and we were treated so well. They gave us COCONUT WATER and SANDWICHES! It was also one of our favourite nights of the tour as we got to meet the guys in Pond and watch them perform. Really amazing band… The show was part of the Indiestaad festival, which was great especially because we had never played in Amsterdam before. We got to play in front of an enthusiastic audience of around 300 and Alex made it to Amsterdam just in time to join us on stage! Thank you US embassy in London! After the show, we had a little visit to a neighbourhood ‘coffee shop’ and all fell asleep delightfully.

Day Twelve

After our three-day blissful stay in Hamsterdam, we travelled on to the beautiful Paris, also something we were ALL really looking forward to. We were also looking forward to returning to another amazing venue, Nouveau Casino for the first ever Neon Gold Pop Shop in Paris. (Pop Shop is a monthly concert/party series that Neon Gold throws in NYC and is now expanding around the globe). As expected the show was incredible, with St. Lucia joining us on the bill again and a lighting display that we could’ve watched for hours without music. After the show, there were rumors of us all going out to David Lynch’s club - Club Silencio for a little after party. In general, we had kept our post-show events pretty low key so we thought… why not?

Fast forward to Club Silencio - A ‘smoke forest room’, $18 drinks and the smallest dance party the world has ever seen. And, it was AMAZING. Apres le club, le sleep.

Side note, there was an amazing kitty at our hotel - Cosmos.

Day Thirteen

Day off in Paris. Ahh. Most of the band (and our manager, Seth Kallen) are food obsessed… so we were very excited for a long day of walks, baguettes and all kinds of delicious food and wine. So we buddied up, went our separate ways and planned for a picnic on Montmartre at 6pm. We all met up in the evening with wine, cheese, sausage and fruit and sat on the hill underneath Sacre Coeur and relaxed (super adorable). Watching the sunset with your best friends (while eating sausages) really ain’t bad. Naturally, after we ate and drank for two hours we went… to… dinner! Alex recommended a place he had been to on a previous tour and it was incredible - Le Cloche D’or… Duck Confit, Escargots, Foie Gras, Steak Tartare… we had it all and it was the yums de jour. One of the best meals I’ve ever had, and certainly the best meal we’ve ever had on tour. After that we all examined the abuse our wallets took in 24 hours in Paris, and then went to sleep! A bientot Paris!

Day Fourteen

We returned to London on Thursday just in time to play Neon Gold’s Popshop in London at Camp (We just barely made it after missing our train… turns out customs for a train ride is just as hard as a flight, who knew?!) The show was another great party as we joined the bill with St. Lucia and Foxes once again. Afterwards we weaseled our way into the member’s only Shoreditch club and drank fancy cocktails played foosball for two hours. It was also another great chance for us to catch up with our lovely friends in St. Lucia… The night ended very late with a doner kabab party and a very smelly hotel room.

Day Fifteen

Friday was the band’s last day in London and we got up bright and early to meet up with Sarah at Roundhouse Radio to record a session and interview (not sure how we made it as we definitely had one too many ‘foosballs’ the night before). Strangely enough we had only just met Sarah randomly in Brighton the week before and she was nice enough to have us on her show for a recording. We played ‘Loveliest Creature’ and ‘Sarah’s Secret’ and chatted for a good hour and it was wonderful. We also learned our second favourite word of the tour - ‘knackered’. After that we headed over to the offices of Frukt - a wonderful ad agency in London that we’ve teamed up with multiple times in NY. We played a super, super fun afternoon party at their offices and met a ton of great people. Timmy also learned how to make a full drumset out of half a floor tom and a couple cushions. We also played Jenga.

Shortly thereafter, sleepiness and fatigue hit in with a vengeance and although our intentions were grand, the allure of our hotel room gripped us and we fell asleep nice and early…

Day Sixteen

On Saturday, May 19th the tour came to an end… Deidre, Gary and Timmy flew back to the states. Alex trained to Bristol to work on a record and I stayed in London for a couple extra days to play with my friend Ron Pope at Union Chapel and to catch up with friends. The tour could not have gone better, and we truly can’t wait to come back… Until next time!
