7Chariot gets spontaneous on ‘Ricochet’

Nashville-based artist 7Chariot has been working as a songwriter and musician since she was 17 but her new, debut single ‘Ricochet’ – which forced her to come out of her comfort zone and break free from the way she usually constructed songs – signals a turning point in her story. And it’s not hard to hear why.

Initially beginning as a drum loop in a studio session, 7Chariot decided to work spontaneously, giving her electro-pop belter ‘Ricochet’ a distinct sense of urgency. From the opening “dum-de-de-dum” (that’ll probably rattle around in your head all day) to the climactic, soaring moments, it’s bass-driven pop that’s constantly attention-grabbing.

Speaking of the lyrical concept behind the track, 7Chariot said: “‘Ricochet’ is a song about the defence mechanism your brain builds when you think the relationship you’re in is too good to be true”. She thus goes through a process of self-sabotage in the track, tricking her own brain into thinking that what she’s got might fall apart at any second, singing “what if my emotions richochet?” She may have unfortunately self-sabotaged her relationship, but ‘Ricochet’ shows she’s done anything similar on her musical path.
