Neu Pick
Aathens build a fortress on ‘Idiot Thing’
Formed at London’s infamous Power Lunches (RIP), the frustrated post punks’ latest is streaming first on DIY as today’s Neu Pick.

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Aathens.
Rising from the wreckage of sadly departed music venue and arts space Power Lunches, London post-punks Aathens throb with the creative energy those four walls once contained.
On ‘Idiot Thing’, their frustration at the dissolution of the world around them takes the fore, as frontman Patrick Browne aims his razor-wire tongue and jagged guitars at a shell-suit clad target who “drinks on expenses.” A sneering, world-weary cut, it’s perfectly primed for the darker nights and disorientating nature of a big city winter.
‘Idiot Thing’ is taken from ‘TVEP’, Aathens’ debut release, due October 14th. Four tracks recorded in one take, it’s a visual run-through of the band’s tight-as-a-knot live set, filmed in low-budget, prate TV style - the perfect encapsulation of Power Lunches’ ethos, which itself drips from Aathens’ every pore.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
