Alessi’s Ark To Release Third Album, ‘The Still Life’
The singer-songwriter will issue a new record this spring.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard new material from west London singer-songwriter Alessi Laurent-Marke. Her last album, ‘Time Travel’, was released back in 2011.
Well, it’s a wait that won’t be any longer, as details of a new Alessi’s Ark album have been announced.
Titled ‘The Still Life’, the record will be released via Bella Union on 15th April. And of it, Alessi says via a press release that she ‘wanted to create a musical landscape that varied in sound, but an overriding feeling of ‘stillness’ remained throughout the album. I also wanted to step back from playing acoustic guitar and immerse the songs in very different sound settings from previous recordings.’
The album was recorded in Athens, Georgia in the studio of producer Andy LeMaster (Bright Eyes, Drive-By Truckers). “I had heard brilliant things about Andy as a person,” she says, “and I felt extremely fortunate to spend time together and work so closely on this album. He brought some very gifted, beautiful musicians on board and I was moved by their warmth in Athens.”
The tracklisting is:
1. Tin Smithing
2. Veins Are Blue
3. The Rain
4. The Good Song
5. Big Dipper
6. Afraid Of Everyone
7. Those Waves
8. Whatever Makes You Happy
9. Sans Balance
10. Mountain
11. Hands In The Sink
12. Money
13. Pinewoods
If all that wasn’t enough, you can hear ‘The Rain’ right now, below.

3-5 Stars
‘The Still Life’ reflects a wispy collection of tales of love that, in contradiction to the album’s title, are wonderfully dynamic.
