Alex Kapranos Accuses Pharrell Of Stealing ‘Take Me Out’ Riff For Paloma Faith Song

Sample dispute concerns Paloma Faith’s ‘Can’t Rely on You’ track.

Frontman of Franz Ferdinand, Alex Kapranos, has aired his discontent towards producer Pharrell on twitter, accusing the latter of stealing a riff from Franz’s breakthrough single ‘Take Me Out’.

The riff is adjudged by Alex to have been used in a Paloma Faith song ‘Can’t Rely on You’, which Pharrell has writing credit on.

Alex wrote to Pharrell on Twitter. ‘Hey @Pharrell - love your tunes. If you want to borrow a riff, just ask…’

Listening to the song below, it’s clear the two share the initial ‘de-de-de-de-de-de-deee’ bit, but maybe not the ‘da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-nuh-nuh’ bit. So there you go.

It doesn’t seem like Alex is too cheesed off. He’s subsequently tweeted. ‘Let’s hope it’s a hit, again.’
