Alicia Keys and Jay-Z finally got around to taking ‘Empire State of Mind’ to New York
It was only a matter of time…
It was only a matter of time until Alicia Keys and Jay-Z got around to taking ‘Empire State of Mind’ to the “concrete jungle where dreams are made of,” and this weekend the pair performed their ‘The Blueprint 3’ collaboration in Times Square.
Jay-Z made a guest appearance during Keys’ Sunday evening New York gig; which also featured cameos from Nas, John Mayer and Questlove. The same night, Keys also played a cover of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’.
Back when it was released in 2009, ‘Empire State of Mind’ hogged the number one spot in the U.S. for five consecutive weeks, and went on to sell over five million copies. Not bad at all.
