Amy Winehouse film ‘AMY’ to be released in UK cinemas this summer

Documentary about the late singer’s life is out this July, directed by Asif Capadia.

A documentary film covering the life of Amy Winehouse, ‘AMY’, has been given a confirmed July release in UK cinemas.

Out 3rd July, the new production will feature exclusive unseen footage, with a narrative told from the late singer’s own words.

Behind the documentary is the same team who made acclaimed film ‘Senna’, a 2010 production depicting the life of racing driver Ayrton Senna. Asif Capadia directs.

Winehouse tragically died from alcohol poisoning in July 2011. ‘AMY’ will cover her musical success and her struggle with addiction.

“A once-in-a-generation talent and a pure jazz artist in the most authentic sense, Amy wrote and sung from the heart using her musical gifts to analyse her own problems. The combination of her raw honesty and supreme talent resulted in some of the most original and adored songs of the modern era,” reads a blurb on ‘AMY’.

“Her huge success, however, resulted in relentless and invasive media attention which coupled with Amy’s troubled relationships and precarious lifestyle saw her life tragically begin to unravel.”
