Antony Szmierek drops deluxe album and bonus tracks
New cuts ‘That Face You Make When It’s Raining’ and ‘Girlypops’ both feature on the expanded edition of his acclaimed debut.

Antony Szmierek has followed up the release of his stellar debut album ‘Service Station At The End Of The Universe’ (which originally arrived back in February) with a brand new deluxe version - out now - that features not one but two fresh tracks.
‘That Face You Make When It’s Raining’ is, in the poet/producer’s own words, “a northern take on UKG” that sees him team up with fellow Manc Yves Jones to ruminate on the intricacies of expression and England’s notoriously shit weather. “Loose, fun rhymes and punchlines about rain and Vimto set against the backdrop of an argument with a partner,” he has said of the song, explaining it was “actually written in the carpark of ASDA Hulme as far back as three years ago.”
‘Girlypops’, meanwhile, finds Antony leaning into his ’90s pop proclivities, landing somewhere between Spice Girls and Fat Boy Slim as he pays homage to the joys of going out with the gals. “[It’s] a pop song that subverts the gender expectations around a ‘lads night out’ with a big singalong chorus,” he’s shared, noting that “this came from the same session as ;Crumb’ and ‘Crashing Up’, but lost its place on the record to ‘Yoga Teacher’ as it made the middle of the album too indie sounding. I wanted the album to feel almost like a compilation CD or mixtape in places, and I think this one nods to that feeling even more.”
