Arthur Russell tribute show to feature Dev Hynes and Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry

The Brooklyn Academy of Music will host a pair of shows this May.

The legacy of the late musician and composer Arthur Russell will be honoured this May by a tribute show featuring Dev Hynes, Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire and Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters.

The performance will be promoted in association with Red Bull Music Academy and the Red Hot Organization, whose endeavours aim to combat AIDS through popular culture. Hynes and Shears both starred on last year’s ‘Master Mix: Red Hot + Arthur Russell’, a tribute album commissioned by the Red Hot Organization that also featured covers from likes of José González, Sufjan Stevens and Robyn.

Russell produced music that ranged from avant-garde cello pieces, minimalist compositions, left-field disco and country, collaborating with esteemed names such as David Byrne, Allen Ginsberg, Philip Glass and Nicky Siano before passing away in 1992 due to AIDS. The event will take place on consecutive nights on May 29th and May 30th in the Howard Gilman Opera House with tickets priced at $35. Other performers include Sam Amidon, Cults, Lonnie Holley, Redding Hunter, Little Scream, Thao Nguyen of Thao & The Get Down Stay Down and Rubblebucket.
