Aussie festival Soundwave cancelled

Organisers are in a dispute with their ticketing firm.

Aussie festival Soundwave cancelled

After Bring Me The Horizon said “we hope to confirm our involvement this week” on Sunday in reference to an event their fans Down Under were sure they were playing, the future of Aussie festival Soundwave has looked increasingly in doubt.

Since 2007, the event has hosted a rock-oriented line-up between different cities in Australia. 2016 is due to feature headliners Disturbed, plus The Prodigy, Deftness, Refused and others in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, on 23rd, 24th and 26th January respectively.

While festival organiser AJ Maddah responded to Bring Me The Horizon fans’ concerns, “we’re working on their concerns/requests”, he posted on Monday, he also revealed there’d be no 2017 edition of the festival, which is claimed to be close to AUD$26 million in debt.

Now after NOFX guitarist Eric Melvin’s Instagram post overnight claimed the event was cancelled, Maddah has turned to ticketing company, Eventopia, who he claims were passing on an advance to pay both the US rockers and Bring Me The Horizon’s advances.

Eventopia has responded with a statement, telling one Australian publication it “takes instruction from the Soundwave Festival promoter”, and “Customers should contact the Festival Promoter, Hounds of Hell Pty Ltd directly if they have any questions regarding the Event”, adding on Twitter:

Update (17th December 2015)

January’s festival has been confirmed as cancelled.

“I am devastated to have to announce the cancellation of Soundwave 16 due to poor ticket sales,” AJ Maddah posted on Twitter earlier today, adding that ticket holders should contact their point of purchase for refunds.

However, those visiting the Soundwave page on ticketing company Eventopia’s website are given the following message:

“In line with our ticketing sales agreement, the Festival Promoter is responsible for all ticketing funds that were advanced, and is directly liable to all ticket purchasers for issuing customer refunds.

Customers should contact the Promoter of the Festival directly to request their ticket refund in full.”
