Bethany Cosentino unveils new track, ‘Natural Disaster’
It’s the final teaser of her debut solo album of the same name.
Bethany Cosentino has today shared ‘Natural Disaster’, the opening track from her eponymous debut solo album, which arrives this Friday 28th July via Concord Records. It’s a socially conscious cut exploring global warming and climate anxiety: ‘And hey, if we’re all dying then what does it matter? / We’re a natural disaster’.
It follows previous singles ‘It’s Fine’, ‘Easy’, and ‘For A Moment’, which together give listeners an indication of what the full album holds - candid lyricism and insightful reflections on navigating ever-changing circumstances.
Of the song, she comments: “It’s meant to serve as a commentary on the way we as humans go about our business as the world around us crumbles and literally burns. Thinking about the way our planet is changing is wildly anxiety-producing, but it’s very real, so I hope this song can call attention to it while also giving people something to sing along to.”
The country-tinged pop track also comes accompanied by a video, which sees Bethany performing in front of a widescreen on which scenes of natural disaster are projected. Discussing the video, she says: “None of us are perfect, but even if we do one or two small things in an attempt to elicit change, we are doing the right thing. With some of the hottest temperatures on record happening this summer, I hope this song and video can serve as a call to action. I chose to highlight Evergreen Action, a non profit organisation working towards combating climate change.”
