Betting suspended on Radiohead to record the next Bond theme

Thom Yorke + guns, violence and backwards-thinking portrayals of women = a no-brainer.

Betting suspended on Radiohead to record the next Bond theme

In the biggest Bond shock this side of Daniel Craig’s invincibility, Radiohead have been tipped to record the theme song for Spectre, the latest in the big blockbuster series.

Betting has been suspended on Thom Yorke and co. providing the song after a punter from Middlesex placed one solid £15,000 bet on it happening. Either someone’s had a tip-off, or Sam Smith is trying to throw a spanner in the works.

It’s not the most obvious film and music match, to say the least. Adele recorded the award-winning lead for last Bond flick ‘Skyfall’, and the closest Radiohead have ever come to dramatic and steamed-up songwriting is ‘House of Cards’, from their ‘In Rainbows’ LP. But even then, Yorke crooning: “I don’t wanna be your friend, I just wanna be your lover” isn’t exactly their rendition of ‘Diamonds Are Forever’.

Spectre director Sam Mendes has previously confirmed that the song’s already been recorded, and Ellie Goulding is the sensible person’s favourite to be behind it. Saucy warbler Sam Smith is also a popular choice.
