In the new, July issue of DIY (out Wednesday 24th June), Jack Antonoff of Bleachers says his new album ‘Strange Desire’ is the most personal yet.

Antonoff sees the record as something to truly express his own self. “It’s sort of just me,” he says, speaking to DIY’s Sarah Jamieson. “It’s my story in so many different forms. I’ve never really been the kind of writer than writes in overly poetic ways and weaves stories with other people. It’s very literal. The music may be bombastic and kind of experimental but the songs end up being often really dark and very hopeful. I dunno, it’s almost like a diary.

“A big part of the production on this album,” he goes on, “was that I wanted to hear all of the sounds of my life, literally the people of my life. There’s voices all over the album. I would sample voicemails and my friends and family to create this album that sounded like my world in a very literal way.”
