Blood Orange’s ‘Freetown Sound’ is out now

Follow-up to ‘Cupid Deluxe’ lands three days ahead of its release date.

Dev Hynes was set to release his new Blood Orange album on Friday 1st July, but ‘Freetown Sound’ is available to hear now (because let’s face it, nobody likes playing the waiting game).

Blood Orange’s follow-up to 2013’s ‘Cupid Deluxe’ is a seventeen-track epic, which is also available on deluxe double LP vinyl.

The album’s title is named after Freetown, in Sierra Leone, the birthplace of Hynes’ father. It features (amongst others) Empress Of, Debbie Harry and Nelly Furtado,

He told Entertainment Weekly the album has a “slightly A.D.D.” quality. “I was really intentionally trying to make things move quickly to keep [people’s] attention. That’s how I am, and that’s how a lot of people are now, especially with looking for clips on YouTube,” he said. “I wanted it to feel like that. Being online and doing that stuff is the modern equivalent of recording songs off the radio or even recording stuff off TV. I used to do that stuff when I was younger, like on VHS. You’d cut out the commercials and press record again.”
