Bob Dylan awarded Nobel Prize in Literature
Songwriter is given credit for “having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”
Bob Dylan has been awarded 2016’s Nobel Prize in Literature.
The legendary, 75-year-old songwriter has been praised for “having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.” Rather than being awarded for a specific piece of work, the prize is given to those who’ve impacted on literature over a lifetime of writing.
Dylan is the first American to win the award since Toni Morrison, in 1993. Previous winners include Gabriel García Márquez, Jean-Paul Satre and Samuel Beckett.
The prize includes a winner’s amount of 8 million Sweden kroner, or approximately £742,000.
