Boys brings faith to ‘Believe Anything’
Sweden’s Nora Karlsson delivers an honest take from new EP ‘Kind of Hurt’.
Scrappy bedroom recordings only survive if they capture something new. Liz Harris aka Grouper makes ambience her own. Hinds bring a primal energy to their early work. It’s the same with Nora Karlsson, a Swedish musician going under the name Boys.
With ‘Believe Anything’, drum parts might as well be recorded out of laptop click noises. Guitars could be played from the room next door. And Karlsson’s vocals swim around in their own territory. Combine everything, however, and you’re left with an eerily sweet end-product, a pop ballad that floats around before leaving its mark.
It’s a long way from Karlsson’s day job as a guitarist in HOLY, but it’s a bright sign of things to come. ‘Believe Anything’ is taken from new EP ‘Kind of Hurt’, due out 25th September on PNKSLM.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
