South London’s BYFYN shares video for the thumping synth-pop of ‘Oh Dear’
The new clip is today’s Neu Pick.
Early last year, we shared ‘Haze Of Light’, the new video from South London’s BYFYN. We called the track “a dark, captivating synth-pop beast,” and there’s more where that came from on new cut ‘Oh Dear’.
The track - which is premiering on DIY as today’s Neu Pick along with a new video - speaks of despair at the world, but the feelings are transmitted by thumping synth-pop reminiscent of Robyn and with a distinctive Chvrches feel, too.
The video, which sees BYFYN - aka Ellie Isherwood - leading a group through colourful, choreographed routines - was directed by Geraint Morgan of A House In The Trees, while the cinematography comes from Jan Solberg, who shot the ‘Haze of Light’ video.
Speaking of the track, Ellie says: “I wrote/produced it after reading “The Wisdom of Insecurity” by Alan Watts and binging Charlie Brooker’s screen wipes, one of which featured Adam Curtis’s feature on “Oh Dearism”. Both talk about the constant bombardment/assault on the senses we are faced with living in the modern world and this really struck a chord with me.
“There is so much going on in our world, information is being fed to us practically every minute of the day, from politics, to plastic surgery, and we are becoming so over saturated with it to the point that all we can say about it is “Oh Dear”.”
