Catholic Action share festive double single

‘No Angels’ and ‘New Year (Christmas Miracle Mix)’ welcome in the first day of our advent calendars.

Right in time for 1st December (very prompt, lads!) Catholic Action have shared a pair of festive singles to get everyone in the spirit.

‘No Angels’ - a debauched and jangly delve into drinking too much and slumping in front of the telly - sees singer Chris McCrory crooning “you can’t have sex at Christmas, can’t make love or screw, you can’t have sex at Christmas, television and food”. It’s a slightly strange contender for a killer chorus, but y’know what? It sort of works.

B-Side ‘New Year (Christmas Miracle Mix)’ meanwhile brings a new take on ‘New Year’ from the Scottish band’s debut album. It packs in its fair share of cheesy string-bends and heartbreak, too, along with a dystopian news sample announcing the cancelation of Christmas altogether.

“You can’t listen to as much 70s music without harbouring a massive desire to write a Christmas song,” reasoned the band in a press release. “It’s something we’ve always wanted to do as a band but never have. However, when Noddy Holder walked passed us in the street in Edinburgh last year, just after we’d spoke about doing it - we took that as a sign from above. Next year we would write and record a Christmas single! And would you look at that, we’ve made you a Christmas B-side too from one of our album tracks!”

There we go! Thanks, Noddy Holder, for providing the inspiration. Have a listen to both songs below, and if you feel so inclined, pick up the physical single (which comes with a Christmas card from the band) here.
