Cave Painting Talk Alt-J Tour: “It’s Nice To Be Around Something So Exciting”
DIY Radio’s Mel Lewis catches up with Cave Painting’s Sam Simon.

DIY Radio’s Mel Lewis is back on the airwaves today, with her first show of the year airing this afternoon at 4pm. Alongside tracks from the likes of DIY favourites AlunaGeorge, Peace and Bastille, she also catches up with keyboardist and occasional drummer Sam Simon from Cave Painting who told her all about the band’s recent tour with Mercury Prize winners alt-J, amongst other things.
‘They just found us,’ he explained. ‘We chatted on Twitter a bit because we both played a festival in Belgium. They just got in touch. Next thing we knew we were on tour with them. We found out really last minute for the whole thing, but I think it was definitely one of our best moments of last year.
‘It’s really nice to be around something that’s so exciting. At the time, their album [‘An Awesome Wave’] came out while we were on tour with them. It was all just happening around something that we were lucky enough to be a part of. It was really nice. They’re such nice guys, and we’re still in touch with them now.’
The band also revealed they’re currently planning their own jaunt, following the cancellation of a few dates this January: ‘We’re gonna announce some more dates soon hopefully. We really live for playing live.’
Hear the full interview on Mel Lewis’s DIY Radio show at 4pm today (22nd January). Cave Painting’s debut album ‘Votive Life’ is out now.
