Chance the Rapper and The Social Experiment announce ‘Surf’ project

First full-length is due out before the end of 2014.

Chance the Rapper and The Social Experiment (comprised of Nico Segal, Peter CottonTale and Nate Fox) have been in the Chicago rapper’s home studio for the past few months. Now, according to Chance, they’re putting their name to a full project for the first time. ‘Surf’ isn’t being classed as an album, strictly, but it’s bringing together the product of the prolific collaboration’s recent sessions.

In a new interview with Billboard, Chance explains that ‘Surf’ is part of a series of projects. Due to be released for free before the end of the year, this is his first collection of tracks since ‘Acid Rap’, which put the artist on the map in 2013, hitting over 1 million downloads.

‘Surf’ is being classed as “the first Social Experiment project” - recently the meeting of minds fledged ‘No Better Blues’, a hate-everything, partly tongue-in-cheek riposte to everyday mundanities and heavier topics.

The project also recorded an edit of the ‘Arthur’ theme song, featuring Wyclef Jean and Jessie Ware, amongst others.

Speaking about ‘Surf’, Chance told Billboard: “The band has been backing me on a lot of the shows, so when you go to a Chance the Rapper show it’s billed as a Chance the Rapper show, and even though you bought a ticket for a Chance the Rapper show, you end up going to a Social Experiment concert, you know?”

Chance the Rapper has also been working with Frank Ocean, Rick Rubin and J. Cole in different capacities, although none of these artists are confirmed to appear on ‘Surf’.
