Clean Bandit Top UK Singles Chart With ‘Rather Be’

Classical/pop fusionists Clean Bandit have scored the fastest selling single of 2014 so far with their ‘Rather Be ft. Jess Glynne’ track. The single sold 163,000 copies in its first week of sale; the biggest selling January single since 1996’s ‘Spaceman’ by Babylon Zoo. Blimey.

Last year the Atlantic signings hit the top 20 with ‘Mozart’s House’, but this track is easily the band’s breakthrough since their formation in 2009. ‘Rather Be’ beat off competition from The Vamps (#3) and Neon Jungle (#5).

In the UK albums chart, current DIY cover stars Warpaint went straight into the top 10 with their Rough Trade-released second, self-titled album.

Ellie Goulding’s currently top of the album chart, with this week’s highest new entry being Bruce Springsteen’s ‘High Hopes’. Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s ‘Wanderlust’ return enters at #4.
