Courtney Barnett covers John Cale’s ‘Close Watch’
The recording appeared as the B-side on her Record Store Day 7” release of ‘Kim’s Caravan’
The John Cale cover that Courtney Barnett recorded for her Record Store Day release can now be heard online. Her take on the Velvet Underground co-founder’s song ‘Close Watch’ shows a different, more vulnerable side to Barnett’s distinctive vocals. It matches perfectly as a mirror to A-side ‘Kim’s Caravan,’ a track taken from her debut album ‘Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit’.
Courtney Barnett recently shared the video for ‘Kim’s Caravan,’ and it’s a dark scene of flaming caravans and grimy blankets. This John Cale cover only sees her tread further down the road leading to the beautifully melancholy.
