Dean Fertita unveils Hello=Fire video, ‘Parallel’

Track is taken from a self-titled solo album, with guest sports from Brendan Benson and Michael Horrigan.

Dean Fertita’s ‘Parallel’ single under the Hello=Fire name might sound familiar. Last month, The Dead Weather bandmate Jack White decided to cover the track, steeped in classical influences and a soaring, open-road-ready embrace.

Fertita’s original version is streaming on DIY, below. It’s taken from a self-titled solo album, which also features Brendan Benson (The Racounteurs) on vocals and bass, Michael Horrigan (The Afghan Whigs) on drums, with Fertita (best known for The Dead Weather and Queens of the Stone Age), leads the way with vocals, keys and guitar.

The Detroit stalwart’s first work is out via Schnitzel Records. Contrasting to Jack White’s more blues-rooted version, Hello=Fire’s take on ‘Parallel’ is sparser, more willing to drift off in whichever direction it fancies at the time. “I know you all too well,” sings Fertita, but the beauty of ‘Parallel’ is how unfamiliar it comes off, despite applying everyday trades.
