Laura Marling releases children’s cover album ‘Laura Sings Raffi’
It’s a homage to the legendary entertainer, in part borne from “a desire for tolerable children’s music”.

Laura Marling has dropped a surprise new record, ‘Laura Sings Raffi’ - an LP with a slightly younger target audience than her usual music, being a special children’s album of covers of tracks originally written/performed by Canadian singer Raffi Cavoukian.
A well-loved pioneer of children’s entertainment, Raffi (as he’s mononymously known) has been a firm fixture in the lives of children (and parents) across the world since the 1980s. Self-produced by Laura at her home studio in London, the record is her interpretation of 17 of his best-known songs, including his biggest ‘hit’ ‘Baby Beluga’.
Speaking about the project, Laura - whose last studio album, ‘Patterns In Repeat’, explored the emotions and experiences of parenthood - has noted: “‘Laura Sings Raffi’ marks a logical next step for me, but it’s not only a desire for tolerable children’s music that landed me here. Having discovered Canadian songwriter and children’s entertainer, Raffi, while living in North America, I developed a love for his sincere, dead pan renditions of both his original songs for the very young and those plucked from the canon - all before I even had children of my own.
“These covers, though not all Raffi originals, are delivered in homage to his style and ethos, that being not only a respect for children and his expert attendance to what entertains them, but also to his wider audience - the parents whom he has blissfully attended also. Be funny, be kind, and never patronise.”
Out now via Laura’s own label More Alarming Records, ‘Laura Sings Raffi’ is available on CD, streaming platforms, or via YouTube (see below).
