Did somebody just find the mystery woman who inspired Pulp’s ‘Common People’?
An Athens newspaper is claiming that she’s now married to the Greek finance minister.

“She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge, she studied sculpture at Saint Martin’s College, that’s where I caught her eye,” Jarvis Cocker sings on ‘Common People’, but up until now the inspiration behind the song has been a mystery character. Now, though, an Athens newspaper is claiming to have found the actual woman Jarvis Cocker was writing about. And according to them, it turns out she’s now married to the Greek finance minister.
The Athens Voice reports that Danae Stratou - a Greek woman who studied at Saint Martins College, and graduated in the class of ‘88 - is the woman who inspired the song. She’s now married to Yanis Varoufakis - the finance minister who represents Greece’s anti-austerity party SYRIZA.
