North London duo Wyldest were selected ahead of hundreds of applications to play the opening slot on the DIY all-dayer.

Zoe Mead and Holly Mullineaux are just a few months into being a band, but they’ve already won DIY’s Bandwagon competition, plus a slot on the main stage at this year’s Green Man festival.

“I’ve been writing since around Christmas time. Me and Holly - our first jam was the 8th May and our first gig was the 31st,” remembers Mead.

“I didn’t know what to do with it and then randomly me and Holly bonded by talking about guitar pedals on Facebook. Both our bands broke up previously. We always liked each other’s stuff, listened to the other bands.”

The two unite on always wanting to “make hooks”, but their initial tracks have been compared to dream pop heroes Beach House. “ I suppose it’s a natural thing to compare any dream pop band with Beach House. They pioneered it. Dream pop is just pop, really. Just the indie-er side of it. It’s not completely in tune all the time. The guitars are droning, a little bit lazy and hazy. Classic pop music is really sharp, vocals are really upfront. Whereas dream pop it’s pushed back in the mix.”
