Drake facing a $15 million lawsuit over ‘Homecoming’ film dispute

Drizzy has distanced himself from the production, which is due out imminently.

Drake is facing legal action of up to $15 million, from producers behind the new film ‘Drake’s Homecoming: The Lost Footage’.

Due to air in US cinemas this Thursday, 19th March, the film focuses on a 2009 show in Toronto. Featuring unseen footage an exclusive interviews with those behind Drake’s early success, Drake is reported to have confirmed his involvement in the project - but he’s since publicly distanced himself.

Taking to Twitter yesterday (18th March), Drake said: “The Drake Homecoming film is not something OVO or Drake have any part in… I feel it is my responsibility to inform and protest my fans.”

A representative for OVO also told The LA Times: “Obviously Drake and OVO only put out music and video/film that is of the highest quality for their brand and what their fans have come to expect, and do not want any fans to buy into something that has not come from them.”

Those behind the film have since hit out against Drake’s claims. “I think he thought nothing was going to happen with the film,” says Mark Berry, co-producer of the film and chairman of Attack Media. Drake is reported to have signed a deal in 2009 with Serious Entertainment, agreeing to the concert’s filming for a $15,000 fee.

“Personally, I think he should honor his commitments. Even if he does a show and the proceeds go to charity, doesn’t matter to us,” says Berry, who is contemplating a $15 million lawsuit.
