Drake’s ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ is first platinum record of the year

Drake’s ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ is the first record of 2015 to reach platinum status after selling one million copies in the U.S. It’s not bad going for a surprise mixtape originally intended as a free release.

As Billboard reports, the mixtape shifted 8,000 copies last week, according to Nielsen Music. That tipped Drizzy over the million sales mark. It’s Drake’s fourth platinum album. ‘Nothing Was the Same,’ ‘Take Care’ and ‘Thank Me Later’ all went platinum as well. Although Taylor Swift’s latest album ‘1989’ also passed the platinum mark this year, it came out in 2014. That leaves ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ as the only platinum album released in 2015.

Drake took to Instagram to celebrate, saying “thank you once again,” to fans. Besides selling a million mixtapes, Drake has been debuting new material on Beats1.
