Eastern Barbers prove themselves a cut above on ‘Get Loose’
South London gloom-peddlers are today’s Neu Pick.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Eastern Barbers.
Few new acts can paint a picture of a modern cityscape quite like Eastern Barbers. On their latest track ‘Get Loose’, they’re running their fingers through a palette of greys.
“I trace the veins of the Overground,” grumbles vocalist Ross Fernandez, spinning day-to-day monotony in dizzying new directions atop an ever-building, tense swell of crackles, pops and squeals. By the time guest rapper Paper Plates joins the fray, it all feels ready to rupture. Inhabiting the same inner-city twilight as King Krule’s recent Archy Marshall debut, it’s a haunting shadow of a track – one that leaves a trace long after its layered up reverb drifts into the ether.
Eastern Barbers play their first headline show at the close-to-home location of Peckham’s The Nines on November 10th - grab tickets here. Until then, sink into the sludge of ‘Get Loose’ below.
