Neu Pick
Fenne Lily takes it slow with ‘Bud’
Bristol songwriter’s second track to date packs an added, hidden quality.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Fenne Lily.
Simple folk built from a broken heart? That’s the initial buzz of ‘Bud’, a track from Bristol newcomer Fenne Lily. But as the song unravels, it reveals a whole lot more.
Swimming within ‘Bud’’s breathless chorus is a message of hope. “I’d like to talk things through,” she sings, peering through towards a future that might never exist. And like previous track ‘Top to Toe’, it’s a delicately-constructed giant; one that would collapse under the slightest breeze, but a formidable beast nonetheless.
We’ve got the first play of Fenne Lily’s new track below. It lands ahead of the following live shows:
OCTOBER
22 SWN Festival
NOVEMBER
16 London, St Pancras Old Church
18 Manchester, Gullivers
19 Leeds, High & Lonesome Festival
23 Bristol, Lord Mayor’s Chapel
