Former Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh has died, it’s been announced.
A post on Welsh’s official Facebook and Twitter pages yesterday (8th October) states: ‘We are deeply saddened to announce that Mikey Welsh passed away unexpectedly today. He will forever be remembered as an amazing father, artist, and friend. May he rest in peace.’
Welsh played with the band during their ‘Green Album’ era, replacing original bass player Matt Sharp. He left the band in 2001 following a nervous breakdown and drug issues. Since his departure from Weezer, Welsh had been persuing a career in painting and art.
He made two guest appearances with Weezer in recent years, playing bass on one song at shows in Vermont and New York.
