Francis Lung gets solitary with ‘Back One Day’ video
Ex-Wu Lyf musician takes a starring role on his own two feet.
Francis Lung aka Tom McClung has been taking the solo route for some time, shortly after the self-destruction of former band Wu Lyf. Coupled with a role in tongue-in-cheek disco types Los Porcos, McClung has been making his own, absorbing works, a more introverted form to the music he’s best known for.
It’s emphasised best on ‘Back One Day’, a track from Francis Lung’s ‘Faeher’s Son Vol 1’ collection. Pendulum swinging from light, fluttering piano notes to foot-stamping passion, it finds McClung at a crossroads between pained expression and perfect contentedness. For an accompanying video - premiering on DIY - we find him at a piano, head bowed as he’s filmed in old school VHS and trusty present day HD. It’s a glimpse into his isolated existence. McClung says he worked with director Ella Deacy to explore “the solitude of the performer who believes they are performing alone,” saying they “tried to express the intimacy felt by the voyeur of an unwitting subject.”
