Frank Ocean deliberately didn’t submit ‘Blonde’ or ‘Endless’ for Grammys consideration
Despite performing at the 55th Grammys and winning one for ‘channel ORANGE’, it seems he’s not all that fussed this time around.
Late last night it was revealed that Frank Ocean had missed the deadline for Grammys consideration for both ‘Blonde’ and ‘Endless’. Now, as it turns out, it wasn’t a mistake after all - he deliberately didn’t submit either.
Billboard and Pitchfork report that “a source close to the situation” (that makes it all sound much more life-threatening than it really is, doesn’t it?) that “neither album was submitted for consideration by Ocean’s labels, management or other reps”.
It’s not the first time Frank’s double whammy of new records refused to play the industry game - ‘Endless’, as it turned out, was sneakily dropped ahead of ‘Blonde”s release to fulfil Frank’s label deal with Def Jam and allow him to self-release the record. That irked Def Jam’s parent company Universal - perhaps understandably given that Frank made a million bucks off it in a matter of days - who kicked up a big ol’ fuss about streaming exclusives shortly after its release.
Frank Ocean and team are yet to release an official statement on why they bowed out of this year’s Grammys.
