Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’ the “last Apple exclusive”, if Universal boss gets his way
The label is reportedly outlawing exclusive streaming contracts from now on.
Streaming exclusives have largely dominated 2016’s biggest releases - Kanye West and Beyoncé both released albums as TIDAL exclusives, and the year’s most awaited return from Frank Ocean is currently only on Apple Music.
It might be the last of its kind though, as the boss of Universal has set out the intention to make them the first major label to outlaw such practices.
Lucian Grainge reportedly sent out a company-wide email this week, outlining the downfalls of giving such huge albums to one particular company, as The Guardian report.
‘Blonde’ is set to be on Apple Music for the next two weeks, and after it becomes universally (sorry) available, it may be the last of its kind.
