George the Poet is #5 in the BBC Sound of 2015

Yearly countdown on new names to look out for begins with the Cambridge graduate.

Throughout this week, BBC Music is set to countdown the top 5 of its inaugural Sound Of… list. Whittling down an initial longlist of 15, they’ve begun by announcing George the Poet at #5.

Graduating from Cambridge with a Politics degree, George also formed part of the top three for this year’s BRITs Critics’ Choice. His debut album is scheduled for 2015.

Of the nomination, George the Poet says: “Being in the top five is such a big pat on the back. It’s like… I’m on track.”

The rest of the BBC Sound of 2015 longlist consists of Lapsley, Shamir, Wolf Alice and DIY cover stars Years & Years. Every morning this week, Radio 1’s Huw Stephens will announce a new entry to the top five, concluding with the winner on Friday 9th January.
