Have You Heard?
Giant Party shift the balance with ‘Nighttalk’
Synth-washed smash brings to mind early Twin Shadow.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Giant Party.
Back in October, we debuted the debut track from London four-piece Giant Party. ‘Where Have You Been?’ merged finesse with the kind of falsetto-led calls Wild Beasts made their name mastering.
Second track to date ‘Nighttalk’ takes things in a different direction. Basking under a cloud of rich, ‘80s-nodding synths, it comes off like an extension of Twin Shadow’s early work - rough-around-the-edges but brimming with melody. Building from those comparisons, Giant Party still bring stately vocals and bags of style - trademarks they’re beginning to establish, even at this ridiculously early stage. And it’s already clear they’re suckers for a shiny synth.

Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
