Glasgow venue The Arches forced to close after midnight by licensing board
Petition to reinstate the club’s license has been created.

Glasgow venue The Arches has been forced to bring forward their closing time to midnight, risking the club’s future operations. The city’s licensing board has made the decision following complaints by Police Scotland, who first attempted to close the venue in March. At the time, Glasgow City Council rejected the police order, deeming it “unlawful”.
A police raid followed, with the club shut down on Saturday 26th March due to drug and alcohol-related offences. The venue looked set to close permanently following the discovery of a woman found unconscious inside the live venue. In February 2014, an underage woman died at the Arches after a drugs overdose.
The Herald reports that chairman Bill Butler has said the venue is now at risk of permanent closure, with club nights unable to form an income after 12:00am. A petition to reinstate the club’s license has been created online. To find out more head to The Herald’s website here and the petition page here.
