Glasgow venue The Arches to appeal against recent license decision
Glasgow Licensing Board forced the venue to bring forward closing time to midnight last week.

Glasgow venue The Arches have stated that they will appeal against a recent license decision made by the Glasgow Licensing Board that could result in closure of the venue.
Last week, the city’s licensing board forced the venue to bring forward their closing to midnight, risking the club’s future operations. The decision followed complaints by Police Scotland, who first attempted to close the venue in March.
A statement posted on the Arches website reads, “The Board of Directors for The Arches met last night (Monday May 18) to review all possible options for the future of the acclaimed city centre venue. Glasgow Licensing Board’s decision to curtail the licensed hours of the venue, thus precluding essential club activity, will have a devastating effect on the future of the venue. The board is now taking legal advice on appealing the decision. Meanwhile this week’s scheduled events go ahead as planned.”
Executive director Mark Anderson added, “We are still stunned by Friday’s decision and at a loss to understand just what more we could have done to provide a safer clubbing environment at The Arches.” A petition to reinstate the club’s license has been created online.
