After months of speculation, the music industry has confirmed plans to create a global release day.
For the first time, all music will be released on the same day - Friday.
According to the IFPI (representing 1300 labels worldwide), the decision came after “consolation with artists, musicians unions, record companies and retailers”. These include Spotify, HMV and The Orchard. They cited “frustration for consumers when music fans in other parts of the world can access new releases before them.”
Global release day will be implemented from summer 2015, with albums and singles released at 00:01 local time every Friday in each country.
