Janessa & I
Haim return to Sound Advice for a second consultation with SNL’s Vanessa Bayer
Despite Janessa Slater’s best improvisational efforts, the sisters wern’t keen on recruiting a fourth member.

Few bands are brave enough to return to the world’s worst media consultant. Haim, however, went back for their second meeting with Janessa Slater - played by SNL’s Vanessa Bayer on her running series Sound Advice. On the first episode, Janessa told Este to sort out her trademark bass-face. This time, Este and Alana brought along reinforcements in the shape of Danielle, who missed the last episode due to being ill.
It all starts so well, with Janessa Slater asking what inspired Haim’s next record. “We were lucky enough to tour for two years straight, and we went everywhere..” starts Alana, before Janessa butts in - “I can’t believe you got that much time off from Urban Outfitters!” From then on, its downhill, and eventually ends in the most uncomfortable sister hug of all time.

Now over a decade into their career, HAIM have long since hit their stride — and, having already spent years navigating the industry’s infamous fickleness, on fourth record ‘I quit’ they literally “don’t give a fuck”. With a period of break-ups, overthinking, and crippling self-doubt now behind them, the LA sisters are letting their hair down, ready to abandon fear and embrace a summer of vulnerability, freedom, and fun.
